Toyota Fault Codes

Manufacturer-specific fault codes shared across Toyota and Lexus.

About Toyota codes

Makes covered: Toyota, Lexus.

This page covers Toyota and Lexus together: the CarCoding database keeps both makes’ manufacturer-specific codes in a single table. Separate pages would mean publishing the same content twice.

Toyota’s air-fuel ratio (A/F) sensor codes stand out in this list. The A/F sensor is a wideband device and produces a different signal from a conventional narrowband oxygen sensor, so it has its own code range and should not be confused with generic lambda codes.

The table also contains “related code” entries. These say the real record of the fault is held in another module; they should be read together with that module’s code list, never on their own.

The codes in this table are concentrated in these system groups: emissions and exhaust (3), chassis (2), body and comfort (1).

Manufacturer-specific codes are those with 1 (sometimes 2 or 3) as the second digit: they are defined by the manufacturer, not by SAE/ISO. That is why the same code number can indicate two different faults on two different makes, and why a generic code list is of no use for them.

Some of these codes live in modules outside the engine control unit (ABS, body, network). A generic ELM327 adapter reads the mandatory OBD-II emissions channel; reaching modules outside that channel requires the manufacturer protocol and may not be possible on every vehicle.

Fault codes for this make

The database holds 8 manufacturer-specific codes for Toyota. Each code has its own page with the meaning, possible causes and diagnostic steps:

← All fault codes

Read fault codes on your own vehicle

With an ELM327-based BLE OBD2 adapter, CarCoding reads confirmed, pending and permanent fault codes separately, pulls the freeze frame and explains every code in plain language. Clearing codes is done from the app as well. The app is free to download.

Some advanced features require an in-app purchase.

Data source: the CarCoding fault code database. Code definitions follow the SAE J2012 standard; manufacturers may use different wording for their own codes. Everything on this page is generated from the code-specific database records.
