Airbag / SRS Module

The CarCoding scan map holds 95 definitions for this module type, spread across 38 make groups and appearing under 54 different names.

What does this module do?

The SRS module monitors the firing circuits of the airbags and belt pretensioners, the crash sensors and the belt switches. Circuit resistances must stay inside a narrow window; a value outside it is stored as a code.

Safety-critical module

CarCoding marks this module as safety-critical. The reason: opening an extended diagnostic session on this module temporarily disables the system on some vehicles and turns on a warning lamp. The behaviour is the same with the manufacturer’s own tool — it comes from the nature of the protocol and is not a scanner fault.

The vehicle must not be driven during the operation. Read or clear with the vehicle stationary and in a safe place, and expect the warning lamp to stay on for a while afterwards.

What do the makes call this module?

The name of a module doing the same job changes from make to make. The names below are the actual definition names used under this type in the CarCoding scan map (54 distinct names):

Which makes define it?

The map holds 95 definitions for this type, spread across 38 make groups:

Address and protocol

Every definition in the map is marked as UDS. 53 of the addresses are 11-bit CAN identifiers (three digits, such as 7E0) and 42 are 29-bit extended identifiers (such as 18DA10F1). The most frequent addresses for this type are: 737 (6), 18DAC0F1 (4), 744 (4), 752 (4).

An address being defined in the map does not mean the module can be read on every vehicle. Reaching modules outside the mandatory OBD-II emissions channel depends on the manufacturer protocol and on the vehicle itself.

Related fault codes

Fault codes stored in this module usually belong to these groups:

Airbag / SRS Module on your own vehicle

With an ELM327-based BLE OBD2 adapter, CarCoding scans the vehicle’s modules, reads fault codes from those it can reach and explains every code in plain language. Which modules are reachable depends on the make and on the vehicle. The app is free to download.

Some advanced features require an in-app purchase.
